Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about attending, hosting, and supporting the Queens Community Closet.
Do I need to register or make an appointment?
No. Queens Community Closet events are walk-in. There is no registration, no appointment, and no paperwork — just show up during the event hours.
Is there any cost or income verification?
Everything is completely free, and there is no income verification. We never ask for proof of income, ID, or immigration status. If you need the items, they are yours.
What items can I get?
Events typically offer free clothing for men, women, and children, shoes, household items, and personal care essentials. Selection varies by event and is available while supplies last.
Who can attend?
Everyone is welcome. The Queens Community Closet serves families and individuals across Queens, New York, regardless of background or circumstances.
Is there a limit on what I can take?
Take what your family needs. We ask everyone to be considerate so there is enough to go around, and we recommend bringing your own bag.
Where in Queens are the community closets held?
Events are hosted by local churches and community organizations at locations across Queens. Check the Find a Closet page for upcoming events, a calendar, and a map of partner locations.
How can my church or organization host a community closet?
Community organizations, churches, and other groups in Queens can become distribution partners. We provide the free items; you provide the space and volunteers. Visit the Become a Partner page to get started.
How can I volunteer or donate?
You can volunteer at events through the Volunteer page, and donations are handled through the Showing Hearts Foundation. Questions? Call (718) 971-9089 or email hello@showinghearts.org.
