About the Queens Community Closet
A collaboration of local community partners and the Showing Hearts Foundation, working together so no family in Queens goes without the essentials.
What Is the Queens Community Closet?
The Queens Community Closet is a community-powered program that provides free clothing, household items, and everyday essentials to families across Queens, New York, at no cost and with no questions asked.
It works because of collaboration. Local churches, ministries, and community organizations open their doors to host distribution events and hand items directly to their neighbors. The Showing Hearts Foundation coordinates donations and logistics, and corporate partners like Walmart help keep the shelves stocked.
No single organization could do this alone. The closet is the sum of every partner, volunteer, and donor working toward the same goal: making sure no Queens family goes without the basics.
A Community Collaboration
Local churches and ministries host events and distribute items, the Southern Queens Park Association provides a centralized storage hub, and the Showing Hearts Foundation coordinates donations, all in service of Queens families.
Registered 501(c)(3)
The program is run under the Showing Hearts Foundation Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

What Are Community Closets?
Community closets are free distribution events where Queens families can receive clothing, household items, personal care products, and other daily essentials, all at no cost.
Each community closet is hosted by a local partner organization, typically a church or community center, that provides the space and volunteers to run the event. Items are sourced through corporate and community donations coordinated by the Showing Hearts Foundation.
There are no requirements to attend. No income verification, no registration, no questions asked. If you’re a family in Queens and you need these items, they’re yours.
How events typically work:
- 1Items are picked up from our centralized storage location and transported to the host venue.
- 2Volunteers sort and organize items by type and size before the event opens.
- 3Community members are welcomed in and can browse available items.
- 4Families take home whatever they need: clothing, household goods, personal care items, and more.
- 5Attendance is tracked so we can measure and grow our impact.
